Position: Recruitment Manager, Central Africa & Gulf of Guinea region

Reports to: Regional Business Manager, Central Africa & Gulf of Guinea

Dotted line reporting to: Africa HR Director

Location: Kigali, Rwanda

Start date: 4 April 2022

Contract type: One year full-time- fixed term employment; renewable

Position Background:

The Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) Central Africa and Gulf of Guinea Regional Program is seeking a Recruitment Manager to support the expansion of activities in the Central Africa and Gulf of Guinea region. One of the largest of WCS’s 13 Global Regional Programs, it spans Nigeria, Cameroon, Democratic Republic of Congo, Republic of Congo, and Gabon. This is a rapidly growing program with a diverse and expanding portfolio of donors, partners and projects. WCS recently formally established its regional hub in Kigali, Rwanda which hosts a growing team of technical specialists and regional management to support our country programs and field offices.

Position Summary

This position will work closely with the Africa HR Director, Regional Business Manager and Hiring Managers to manage the recruitment process for the Central Africa & Gulf of Guinea region from approved job requisition to onboarding of new candidates. This position will be responsible for the recruitment of regional positions and senior positions in the country programs and field offices. The Recruiting manager working jointly with others will oversee the sourcing, interviewing and hiring processes for these positions. He/she will ensure the recruiting strategies used by the team are up to date and help them implement new ones. You will also provide advice to the region and the team on recruiting, interviewing and improving the WCS brand in the region through recruiting.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Contributing to the development of the Regional Recruitment Plan
  • Ensure that the principles of diversity and inclusion are embedded in all recruitment activities in the region
  • Ensure that existing WCS recruitment requirements are followed; and propose review and improvement to the Africa HR with the goal of attracting the best candidates within the region and for adoption within GCP recruiting
  • Search for and recommend new sourcing methods of finding top and suitable candidates to roles.
  • Working with Africa HR, advise hiring managers on proper interviewing methods
  • Research and recommend the best job advertising options and techniques within the region; and sharing the lessons with the broader HR team
  • Ensure job descriptions are in the right WCS JD format and accurately represent the main job responsibilities and minimum / preferred qualifications, and consistently position the regional and country programs
  • Post and advertise approved job vacancies for the region via WCS’s e-recruitment system including the AfricaApplications email where necessary and external job boards platform to cultivate diverse and qualified talent pools
  • Review applications, pre-screen applicants and prepare shortlisted candidates for Hiring Manager. Overtime design the selection matrix used in choosing optimum recruitment channel and source for learnings
  • Manage and organize candidate applications and recruitment documentation including but not limited to approved job requisitions, job descriptions, screening matrix, interview notes and references, utilizing WCS’s e-recruitment system
  • Coordinate and schedule interviews with candidates, and synthesize Hiring Manager feedback on candidates. Participate in interviews when necessary
  • Gather professional references and back ground checks for finalists
  • Report on the recruitment and selection process, including key outputs and trends, and provide recommendations to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of future searches. Providing these reports to the collaborating HR teams.
  • Coordinate with HR Director for Africa and country program HR focal points on employment offers
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of labor legislation, implementing required changes to keep WCS recruitment processes compliant in the region and countries.

 Position Requirements

  • A university degree required with a concentration in Business Management / Human Resources or a related field
  • Additional certifications in Human Resources Management a plus
  • A minimum of three years’ experience in recruiting in high volume, high growth environments particularly for an international organization operating in many countries
  • Proven ability to assess talent in line with organizational Core Values and open position requirements
  • Prior experience with applicant tracking or e-recruitment systems and managing candidate databases
  • Proven organizational, analytical, and communication (oral and written) skills
  • Positive attitude and ability to work independently and in a team
  • Ability to work and write in both French and English fluently
