Job Description

Part-time Chef (3 days/week)

Work Environment

As our chef, you will work independently, with minimal instructions (and lots of appreciation!) We are a group of busy people, looking for someone to help us in our goals of eating delicious food, staying healthy, and saving money. We are from many places, including Rwanda, Ireland, and the USA.

Job Overview

The chef will be responsible for feeding us! More specifically, we would love if you could:

Cook food for us, enough to eat as lunch and dinner 5 days/week; put the food in storage containers (provided) for us to take as lunch, or to eat when we are home at night

From your own cooking knowledge, you will cook the food you like to prepare

From our requests, you will also cook recipes we send to you

Host group lunches for 8-15 people once a week, including meat and vegetarian entrees, salad, and a dessert / sweet treat

Buy groceries from the best suppliers on a good price, and organize the finances of the house food

For the meals, you will cook

To keep the pantry stocked (i.e., oil, spices)

For individual grocery orders (i.e., each resident can give you a grocery list)

Prepare ingredients (i.e., washing salad lettuce, chopping garlic and vegetables), simple foods (i.e., rice, beans, baked chicken), and some sauces/dressings (i.e., salad dressings) for the residents to make their own meals

Keep the fridge waste-free. Means you find the product which will soon expire and cook it for us, and remind us to eat the meals which will soon expire

Occasionally cook weekend brunch for a group, approximately once/month

Leave the kitchen clean when you’re finished with your work

Communicate freely with us, about what you are missing to complete your job, and what are your challenges

Take feedback from us humbly, about what is working and what is not working

Work Hours
You will work 3 days/week, usually, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, from 9:30 am until 5 pm. When we ask you to cook on the weekend (Saturday or Sunday), you should be available to serve brunch at 10 or 11 am, and this will take the place of one weekday of cooking for that week.
