ICAP at Columbia University, a global health leader situated within the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health in New York City, seeks highly qualified candidates to serve as an OpenMRS Developer/Implementer (Temporary). The Candidate will be based in Rwanda, at the Rwanda Biomedical Center (RBC) and under the supervision of the ICAP Rwanda Business Intelligence Developer (BI Dev) at RBC. The Candidate will upgrade OpenMRS v1.9 and other versions to OpenMRS version 2.x. The Incumbent will also lead to the implementation of OpenMRS v2.x. This is a temporary position for 5 months (May – September 2020).

ICAP seeks highly qualified and experienced candidates to fill the OpenMRS Developer/ Implementer position by May 11, 2020. The successful candidate will hold a Bachelor’s Degree in a computer or information science/engineering, information systems/ technology. Additional training in public health, health informatics, or health-related field is a plus. S/he must possess 5+ years’ experience in configuring and deploying EMRs  at different levels of health facilities, Experience developing and implementing OpenMRS is preferred, Extensive experience deploying and troubleshooting MySQL, PostgreSQL and other open-source databases, Experience in coding Java, Tomcat and MySQL scripts and Unix shell scripts is a must, Proficient in JSON, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, Groovy and other scripting languages, Knowledge of Java and Python programming languages, Deep know-how in deployment, troubleshooting, and maintenance of servers such as Tomcat and Apache,

Experience working on various Linux distributions including CentOS, Debian, and Ubuntu, Experience with virtualization platforms, e.g. Docker, Skilled in setting up and using helpdesk tools such as Nagios for server monitoring  and Experience in OpenMRS development

The Incumbent will have a demonstrated tracker of Strong organizational skills and ability to work in a culturally diverse environment, Great interpersonal skills and a genuine desire to learn new skill sets, Self-starter able to initiate and follow through programs with minimal supervision, Strong written and oral communication skills, Experience working in low resource settings, English required, French an advantage and active participation in the OpenMRS community, with recent demonstrated experience in an OpenMRS project.
