Jhpiego is a key partner in the USAID-funded President’s Malaria Initiative (PMI) Impact Malaria Project contributing to the country’s National Malaria Control Strategic Plan 2020-2024 and beyond.

PMI Impact Malaria Project works with national Malaria programs to fight Malaria and save lives by strengthening the diagnosis, treatment, and drug-based prevention of Malaria, especially for children and pregnant women.

The PMI Impact Malaria in collaboration with the Malaria and Other Parasitic Diseases Division/Rwanda Biomedical Center will be starting a health facility-based clinical trial on the efficacy of artemether-lumefantrine and dihydroartemisinin-piperaquine in Rwanda. The present study will be an open-label trial in which patients (children aged 6 months to 59 months) with uncomplicated P. falciparum malaria in three sites with different levels of antimalarial drug resistance will be treated with ALN and DP. Children will be followed-up for 28 days to 42 days after treatment. Jhpiego Rwanda is hiring the following positions for the Study:

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor the progress of research activities; develop and maintain records of research activities, prepare periodic and ad hoc reports as required by investigators, administrators, funding agencies, and/or regulatory bodies
  • Oversee subject enrollment to ensure that informed consent is properly obtained and documented
  • Facilitate information exchange among study sites, Mal &OPD, and PMI IM investigators, research subjects, or other support systems
  • Manage study paperwork, electronic correspondence, and data.
  • Ensure subject safety and provide information regarding adverse events and any pertinent information to subjects and investigators in a prompt manner
  • Supervise and coordinate the provision of support services to study sites and study teams
  • Prepare and submit monthly, quarterly and annual reports
  • Comply with all Rwanda Ethics Committee and other institutional rules and regulations related to research involving human subjects and human subject‐derived information and materials
  • Ensure that study data are collected and kept according to the protocol and human research subject principles
  • Ensure supervision of data entry at all study sites
  • Provide biweekly, monthly and quarterly reports to supervisors
  • Ensure the smooth and efficient day-to-day operation of research and data collection activities; acts as the primary administrative point of contact for internal research staff
  • Coordinate the day-to-day activities of any study staff specifically engaged in the carrying out of research protocol as appropriate to the position
  • Prepare or participate in quality assurance audits conducted by RNEC or other regulatory agencies
  • Prepare and coordinate the shipment of a study blood sample

Required Qualifications, Skill & Abilities:

  • Being Rwandan by nationality
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, Public Health or related health field
  • 4 – 5 years’ experience in Coordinating/supervising Clinical research
  • Certificate in Good Clinical Practice, Good Laboratory Practice, and Human Research Subject Principles
  • Have a valid license from National Council
  • Ability to work in collaboration with the health center where the sites will be located and build a good relationship between different teams
  • Proven experience in Prevention and Case management of Malaria at Health facility level
  • Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with study teams, colleagues, members, and external partners and supporters
  • Familiarity with Rwanda’s health system
  • Strong oral, written communication and presentations skills in English
  • Working knowledge of French and Kinyarwanda is preferred.
  • Strong skills in Word Processing and Excel spreadsheets
  • Approachable and good communicator
  • Excellent computer, writing, analytical, and organization skills
  • Ability to travel up to 80% time
