Vision Jeunesse Nouvelle (VJN) is a non-governmental organization created in 2002 by Brother Gabriel LAUZON and Father Epimaque MAKUZA, in Rubavu District, Western Province, in Rwanda. It’s vision as an organization is to create a community of youth renewed in good physical, moral, spiritual, dynamic, and productive health, for the brighter future of Rwanda. VJN aims to accomplish this vision through its mission to develop youth’s talents and skills so that these capabilities can be implemented in the process of sustainable socio-economic development.

FIELD OFFICER RECRUITMENT NOTICE

Vision Jeunesse Nouvelle (VJN) is a non-profit organization (NGO) governed by its statutes and subject to the provisions of Law N0 20/2000 of 07/26/2000 relating to NGOs in Rwanda. The headquarters are based in the Gisenyi sector, Rubavu District, Western Province.

From the beginning of 2015 to the present, the VJN and GIZ / zfd refugee component have been making efforts to ensure peace education by building community capacities for the “Non-violent transformation of conflicts in the Mugombwa and Kigeme refugee camps and in the respective host communities ”.

To this end, in collaboration with GIZ / ZFD, VJN would like to set up an office of a “Fied officer” in Kigeme in the district of Nyamagabe to coordinate activities on the ground meeting the needs of peace, namely:

  • The lack of alternatives to violence to resolve conflicts and the absence of an alternative narrative when it comes to stereotypes, prejudices as the two main factors of conflict to be overcome.
  • By raising awareness among young people of the negative effects of stereotypes, prejudices and by proposing the “value of diversity” as a narrative alternative. The project allows young people to understand “the other” and to show mutual respect during their interactions.
  • By building the confidence of young people and facilitating or supporting platforms where they can engage in meaningful dialogue with their parents and community leaders, the project offers an alternative to violence to address differences of opinion and values ​​between the generations.
  • Lack of support from existing peace clubs and their teachers to strengthen the practice of dialogue and raise awareness of conflict issues, and by strengthening the capacities of class representatives of a selected school (pilot) in mediating conflicts between students, the project offers an alternative to violence in the treatment of conflicts at school.

To fulfill this mission,  Vision Jeunesse Nouvelle  would like to recruit a staff: Local Peace Advisor “LoPA” who will exercise the function of a “local expert in the field” (field officer), in the execution of the project with the funding of the GIZ / zfd.

Position: 1  Local Peace Advisor / field officer based in Kigeme (LoPA)

Duration of the contract: June 2020-December 2022  

Position location:  Nyamagabe district / Kigeme refugee camp

Supervisors:  Peace Program / VJN and Director General of VJN

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Organize and lead periodic meetings with the scouts, animators and trainees
  • Ensure the management, maintenance and logistics of the various support materials that can be used by beneficiaries in the field;
  • Represent the organization in technical meetings and in different working groups with collaborators in the Kigeme camp;
  • Sending a monthly activity plan to the head of the peace program, the weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual report .

MAIN ATTRIBUTIONS

  • Supervise activities on the ground with the Scouts Animators and the trainees;
  • Act as a point of reference for VJN activities inside and outside the Kigeme refugee camp and the host community;
  • Suggest possible ideas for activities related to the specific objectives of the work in the refugee camp and the indigenous community;
  • Maintain the filing of physical and electronic activity documents;
  • Identify and report the needs necessary for carrying out the activities;
  • Assist in the development of a training module on the various themes of peace education;
  • Coordinate training activities with beneficiaries;
  • Perform other activities as requested by their program manager and employer.

PROFILE: QUALIFICATIONS AND PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCES REQUIRED

  • Have at least an A0 level diploma in the fields of peace education, community development, administration, law, social sciences; Arts and Theater education, and other skills related to community leadership;
  • Good computer skills (Word, Excel, Power point, etc.);
  • Experience of at least 1 year working with youth workers and refugees
  • Practical knowledge of the field of conflict management;
  • Good knowledge of the territory and context of the Great Lakes sub-region such as the intervention area;
  • Be willing to work in the field and agree to work overtime if necessary without compensation;
  • Have communication skills: speak and write French, English and Kinyarwanda correctly;
  • Be ready to start work;
  • Have knowledge of interpersonal communication techniques;
  • Have the spirit of creativity and innovation in the field of youth supervision.

TYPE OF POSITION, SCHEDULE AND WORKPLACE

  • The position corresponds to full time according to the labor code of the Rwandan State, that is to say eight (8) hours of work per day.

CONTRACT LENGTH

The contract is for a fixed term, from June 2020 to December 2022 while taking into account the performance achieved.
