Director Information Technology

University of Kigali wishes to recruit a Director Information Technology (DIT) who will be responsible and accountable for Directing the University Information Technology, Communication and Computer systems. The Director will also be responsible for supervising the implementation and maintenance of University’s computing needs as well as the IT department staff members.

Key Responsibilities:

Managing the implementation, development, monitoring, maintenance, upgrading and support of University IT systems. This includes operating systems, servers, PCs, software apps etc.
Providing expert advice and support when systems are being upgraded or installed, or when there are conversions or file maintenance.
Overseeing the development and enhancement of systems and integrating new systems with existing systems.
Working with staff to develop plans and strategies. The goals here are to enhance client services, improve user effectiveness and encourage innovation.
Liaising regularly with executive and senior management as well as systems users.
Manage IT staff by recruiting, training and coaching employees, communicating job expectations and appraising their performance
Making sure written documentation is created and maintained. This includes user and system manuals, licence agreements, and all documentation relating to modifications and upgrades.
Keeping up with the most recent technologies and advising on what new technological solutions are needed.
Negotiating with suppliers of hardware and software to get the best deal, including external support, and being responsible for contracting consultants and making service agreements.
Creating a budget for each project as well as managing the financial aspects of the entire IT department, such as purchases and ongoing budgeting.
Evaluating user needs and system functionality and ensuring that Information and Communication Technology (ICT) facilities meet these needs.
Guaranteeing the smooth running of all ICT systems, security of data, network access and backup systems
Candidate needed:

Master’s degree in computer sciences, technology or related fields.
Prior work experience as a Director IT or in a related position.
Expert knowledge of IT best practices, policies and regulations
In-depth understanding of programming, computer science and digital security
A clear understanding of client/server technology and network architecture
Good communication, including writing, speaking and active listening
Strong problem-solving, critical thinking and decision-making skills
