THE OPPORTUNITY
As the Country Program Lead, you will provide support to the Country Head (CH) and his/her team in coordinating country program strategy. You will hold responsibility to ensure the development and implementation of Rwanda YAW is being planned and resourced, while also overseeing, managing, and closing out the ongoing portfolio in Hanga Ahazaza and Leaders in Teaching, among others.
Reporting to the Country Head, the Country Program Lead will, provide strategic support to the Country Head coordinating ongoing country initiatives and identifying new programs under the Young Africa Works.
WAYS YOU CAN CONTRIBUTE
- Support design of country strategies through working with CH in overseeing country diagnostics, proposal review process and setting strategic priorities for Country programming.
- Coordinate activities with Design & Learning and research teams to conduct diagnostics and design country strategy.
- Collaborate with Program Leads / Partners to develop country-level strategic outcomes and program portfolios, proactively identifying and pursuing opportunities for program integration, innovation and scale.
- Provides relevant expertise in the development of country strategies and portfolios (e.g., MSMEs, Education, etc.).
- Ensure success and impact from country programs, by, e.g., supporting partners with implementation, collaboration, integration, and innovation across strategic priorities / thematic areas.
- Build and manage relationships with senior implementing partners in conjunction with Program Leads and facilitating collaboration opportunities.
- Effectively coordinate Program colleagues within country, ensuring high quality of work, alignment with Foundation values, access to development opportunities and a supportive and collaborative work environment.
- Build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Other duties as required by business needs.
WHO YOU ARE
- You have at least 10 years relevant experience in project management managing a varied portfolio in education and SME support in particular development programs.
- You have a master’s degree in project management and/or a related field.
- Strategic thinker with perspective to apply analytical evaluations accurately to both simple and complex thinking to various projects.
- Strategic mindset to identify and action high-impact opportunities and to understand their transformative impact.
- Ability to lead in at least one area of specialization relevant to the country strategy.
- Service orientation towards the country and its young people and for colleagues across the foundation.
- Ability to have nuanced conversations and facilitate disparate views towards shared outcomes in ambiguous situations.
- Drives towards impact and outcomes; open to learning and iterating to improve/elevate impact.
- Ability to think and work in an integrated and holistic way, keeping the YAW strategy at the centre.
- Ability to effectively engage and manage relationships with senior external stakeholders, particularly implementing partners.
- Outstanding social and intercultural skills and proven ability to multitask and work to deadlines, sometimes under pressure.
- French and Kinyarwanda language skills are an asset.
- Flexible, adaptable, and able to execute a range of job duties and changing priorities.
- Possess excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills with the ability to articulate information to a variety of constituents across cultures.
- Possess professional maturity, sensitivity with different cultures, and impeccable integrity that exemplify the Foundation’s values.
