Our team of physicians, designers, economists, public health professionals, and educators bring a unique mix of human-centered design, adolescent health, evaluation, economic and health outcome evaluation, behavioural science, and implementation know-how to the global problems facing youth.

JOB SUMMARY

We are seeking a full-time intern for six months to support the content creation for CyberRwanda. This will include but not limited to writing season 5 of edutainment webcomics, drafting advice column answers, conducting workshops with young people, and supporting the content approval process with external partners. This role will report directly to the Senior Communications Manager.

JOB TYPE

This is a full-time position based in Kigali, Rwanda.

LOCATION:

This role is based out of YLabs’ office in Kigali, Rwanda and requires the ability to legally work in Rwanda. Our Rwanda office has a hybrid working environment, due to the global nature of our organization.

ABOUT YLABS’ COMPENSATION

YLabs adheres to Project Fair’s principles and standards to establish equity in pay with the overriding principle of “equal pay for work of equal value” outlined in the Sustainable Development Goals. All salary ranges are based on level within the organization and are competitive to regional and national salary benchmarks, based on the respective office location.

PAY RATE

The pay range for this position is gross RWF 11,000,000 – RWF 12,375,000 per year, commensurate with experience. This range is regionally benchmarked for an intern-level position in the Rwandan and sub-Saharan African region. YLabs pays all full-time staff salaries in the local currency of the staff member’s permanent work location.

YOU WILL:

Edutainment webcomics (75%)

Support the concept development for season five, including character journey, storyline, scripts, and educational messages
Engage with the technical team to validate the accuracy of health themes in the stories
Conduct workshops with young people and the technical working group
Conduct and/or attend training sessions with external partners
Review and incorporate feedback from young people, internal staff, and external partners
Work hand in hand with the illustrator to ensure visuals align with the narrative
Advice column (15%)

Review questions asked by young people and provide informed and supportive responses.
Engage with internal and external topic experts for specialized advice when necessary
Review and incorporate feedback from internal staff, and external partners
Develop a content calendar to plan and organize topics for the advice column
Monitor comments and feedback from readers on published columns
Blog posts (10%)

Generate ideas and develop content plans for a variety of topics related to the project’s goals and audience interests
Conducting interviews with young people, and external partners to enrich blog content
YOU ARE:

Passionate about YLabs’ mission to design solutions with youth that measurably and meaningfully improve their lives.
Passionate about storytelling, and working with young people.

Willing to work flexible hours and weekends during workshops
YOU HAVE:

1-2 years of writing experience, preferably webcomics, short stories, radio drama, or other creative writing formats. You do not need to have been published before.
Prior experience conducting field research, including conducting interviews, and focus group discussions would be a plus.
Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to track and record projects progress through to completion
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, in both English and Kinyarwanda
Strong attention to detail
