Job Description
TITLE: Accountant
REPORTS TO: Director of Finance and Administration
LOCATION: Kigali, Rwanda
POST TYPE & CONTRACT LENGTH: Full time & Open contract
About AKA:
AKA is a registered National Non-Government Organization (NGO) operating under the Rwanda Governance Board (RGB) certificate No 66/RGB/NGO/2016. AKA’s mission is providing Rwandan youth with employability skills, capital, and support to take advantage of economic opportunities. Currently, AKA is implementing multiple donor’s projects
To fulfill its mission, AKA would like to recruit an Accountant that would contribute to the fulfillment of it is mission.
Job Summary: Reporting to the Director of Finance and Administration, the Accountant will assume accounting/finance responsibility with emphasis on accounting transactions analyzing for efficient budget control and accurate reporting.
Essential functions include [but are not limited to]:
- Support AKA financial management /accounting system
- Maintain journal entries of wire transfers and receipts
- Record all transactions into accounting system(accounting software)
- Respond to wire transfer inquiries as appropriate
- Organize and maintain accounting filing system (electronic & hard copies)
- Assure accuracy of supporting documentation and entries for accounts reporting
- Resolve any discrepancies or clarification for accounting records
- Analyze on a monthly basis the trial balance
- Analyze staff receivables and other advances to ensure accurate balances.
- Verify justification of advances by staff from field activities
- Maintain accurate and complete accounting records and audit information
- Comply and adhere to donor regulations and procedures
- assist in preparation of financial reports
- Track budget/expenses to ensure proper cash flow
- Assist with financial audit preparation
- Prepare payments after ensuring that support documents are complete
- Ensure monthly taxes declaration and payments
- Compile staff monthly timesheets and prepare a table for salaries allocation to projects
- Prepare the monthly staff payroll
- Prepare on a quarterly basis the vat report
- Reconcile on a monthly basis, all aka bank accounts
- Manage the petty cash
- Maintain check register & check books in a safe
- Participate in budgeting process
- Perform any other task as requested by the supervisor,
Job requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Management of finance
- Three years’ experience in accounting or auditing
- Computer skills: MS office, advanced Excel preferred
- Good knowledge of accounting software packages, QuickBooks preferred
- Good written and verbal skills in English, Kinyarwanda
