Founded in 2006, One Acre Fund supplies 1 million smallholder farmers with the agricultural services they need to make their farms vastly more productive. Our 8,000+ team is drawn from diverse backgrounds and professions. With operations across six core countries in Africa, we make farmers more prosperous by providing quality farm supplies on credit, delivered within walking distance of farmers’ homes, and agricultural training to improve harvests. About the Role

The commercialization and agriculture department’s (CAG) purpose is to bridge the gaps between smallholder farmers and large-scale off-takers. The department aims to increase farmers’ incomes by piloting multiple market access initiatives and subsequently scaling those with promising results. The commercial farm officer will support out-growers (individual farmers or cooperatives) in optimizing their farm productivity all season long, from planting to harvesting, processing, and aggregation of the produce from farm to the buyer

Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the “commercial farms supervisors” (CFS), your responsibilities would include:

Farmer Follow-up

The officer has the task of managing our customers’ satisfaction; the officer is the face of OAF and the primary contact for farmers in the field. Remember, One Acre Fund always puts farmers first.

Ensure farmers follow all strict farming practices

Ensure farmers apply the right quantities of inputs through the agro-dealer system

Ensure that farmers are trained and aware of every next step during the growing period

Management

Be a lead contact for our farmer clients

Communicate all urgent information from the farm on time to your supervisor

Advise farmers on every growing phase with the consultation of management

Coordination and capacity development

Mobilize and deliver all inputs to farmers

Train farmers on good agricultural practices (GAPs)

Plan with farmers/cooperatives all required logistics

Qualifications

Across all roles, these are the general qualifications we look for. For this role specifically, we seek a responsible person with experience in “farming activities” and “farmer training” to participate in our horticultural crop production projects supporting farmers to increase their farm productivity in different regions of Rwanda.

2+ years of experience in farming activities such as farm establishment, crop fertilization and management, pest and disease management, and post-harvest technology.

Demonstrated leadership experience at work, and enthusiasm for learning.
