Organizational Setting
The Men’s Engagement Trainer Consultant will be hired to give training on men’s engagement to support women’s empowerment under the Rural Women Economic Empowerment project, especially under its outcome related to enhanced leadership and participation of women in their communities, in rural institutions, and shaping laws and programmes.
The consultant will work under the general supervision of the FAO Representative in Rwanda and direct supervision of the Assistant FAOR/Programme. The work will be undertaken in close collaboration with the National Project Manager in charge of the RWEE project at FAO.
Reporting Lines
The National Consultant will report to the FAO Representative (FAOR) and all reports will be finalized in collaboration with the National Project Manager under the guidance of FAO Assistant in Charge of Program and the FAO Rwanda and Gender focal point.
Technical Focus
The consultant will work on awareness raising and capacities development for selected RWEE beneficiaries on 1) the importance of Men’s Engagement in Rural Women’s Economic Empowerment, 2) transforming the gender norms that reinforce inequality and harm both women and men. and 3) what should be the role of men? in supporting this effort.
Tasks and responsibilities
The consultant will be responsible for the planning, training and coordination of the activities related to reinforcing the Representation and Decision Making of Rural Women in Agriculture using Men Care + Methodology.
Train Trainers on Men Care + Methodology (120 persons to be trained) in 3 districts: Kirehe, Ngoma and Nyaruguru
Discuss importance, interest/advantage at household, community and country level when women are empowered (for example in terms of production, education, and reducing gender-based violence)
Share best practices to be used by both men and women to work on women’s empowerment
Share and discus techniques, tools and methodologies to be used to maximize men’s engagement in women’s empowerment
Sensitize trainees on gender gaps in access, use of productive inputs, services and the role that men (as decision makers in general ) can play to overcome these gender inequalities
Discuss the support needed from men to facilitate women’s to access leadership positions
Provide illustrative examples of the possible outcomes experienced by women, men, families, and communities when this transformation leads to more gender-equitable relationships and division of labour.
Share training material before the training and ensure the content responds to the objective of the project.
Prepare the handbook which will be used by trained persons while sharing the output from the training.
Prepare and submit to RWEE national coordinator an end-of-assignment report upon completion of his/her assignment.
CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING
Minimum Requirements
Rwandan Nationality
University Degree in Social Sciences, Gender studies or equivalent
Minimum 5 years of experience; in Men Care + trainings
Fluency in written English is required. Fluency in written and speaking Kinyarwanda
Knowledge of French is an asset
