Job Description


OUR CLIENT

Our client is a leading Investment Banking Company in Africa offering a wide range of financial services including Investment Banking, Insurance, and Wealth Management. As part of its expansion plan into East Africa, the company is in the process of opening a Branch Bank in Rwanda.

The client is looking to fill the position of Managing Director with dynamic vibrant results-oriented banking Rwandese Professional

THE POSITION

Reporting to the Group Chief Executive, the Managing Director will be responsible for driving business growth in the Country by identifying opportunities, thereby enhancing the organization’s share in the market

MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES;

  • Monitor and initiate recovery action on non-performing loans.
  • Control expenditure both within Discretionary Limit and under the approved budget ceiling.
  • Ensure in-house training of staff is undertaken as necessary.
  • Facilitate communication and information within the business.
  • Communicate the organization’s mission and objectives; strategic plans, policies, and procedures, etc.
  • Ensure that all lending applications are considered in the light of organization policy, liquidity position, sectoral guidelines, and local knowledge.
  • Monitor actual activities and performance levels against the approved budget and make recommendations to the Group Chief Executive to ensure the budget objectives are achieved
  • Coach and motivate employees to effectively execute their strategic decisions to meet corporate targets
  • Authorize major country expenditure in line with approved authority limits.
  • Communicate and monitor the implementation of the organization’s overall strategy and detailed SBU plans nationwide
  • Develop business strategies for the country and ensure effective implementation in line with the approved budget
  • Direct relationship management activities to secure and increase the share of customer’s businesses within the country.
  • Ensure business directives and initiatives from management are well disseminated across the country
  • Ensure full compliance with regulatory and statutory requirements
  • Ensure leading-edge products/services are developed proactively and deployed speedily to meet the identified needs of the target customer segments
  • Identify and contribute improvement opportunities to promote safe and sound credit practices in the organization
  • Identify critical interdependencies among the sectors and forge effective organizational linkage to ensure a concerted/seamless implementation of the organization’s global business strategy
  • Manage the overall performance of the country in terms of revenue, profitability, and growth of the business line
  • Manage the Organization’s country loan portfolio to minimize business risks and maximize profitability for the Bank
  • Oversee the Organization’s relationship management function and serve as relationship management arrowhead on significant existing/new accounts in the market
  • Perform political, economic, social and technological (PEST) analysis to identify emerging opportunities and risks
  • Periodically review key subsidiary activity and performance reports and take appropriate action to ensure the Organization’s business objectives are achieved
  • Serve on committees or cross-functional teams and perform other duties as assigned by the GCE
  • Set operational targets within the country

QUALIFICATIONS

The job holder should have the following qualifications:

  • Must have a Master’s degree (MBA, MSc, MA. ML)
  • Must have a relevant professional qualification
  • Must have a minimum of 15 years financial sector experience spanning credit analysis, retail banking, wholesale banking, investment banking, commercial and public sector banking

THE RIGHT PERSON FOR THE JOB

The ideal candidate should;

  1. Well versed with the Rwanda financial terrain
  2. Have Good Knowledge of ICT and project management
  3. Must have Knowledge Rwanda law & international conventions, local customs and practices in the Rwandan financial sector
  4. Must have Sound knowledge of government policies and pronouncement
  5. He/she Must be detailed oriented and possess good communication skills.
  6. Must have good Knowledge of Accounting, Finance and Cost Management
  7. Must have Leadership / Supervisory and interpersonal skills
  8. Must have team building/conflict management skills, organization and coordination skills, General management/ Administration skills
  9. Must have good negotiation skills
