From the beginning of 2015 to the present, the VJN and GIZ / zfd refugee component have been making efforts to ensure peace education by building community capacities for the “Non-violent transformation of conflicts in the Mugombwa and Kigeme refugee camps and in the respective host communities ”.
To this end, in collaboration with GIZ / ZFD, VJN would like to set up an office of a “Fied officer” in Kigeme in the district of Nyamagabe to coordinate activities on the ground meeting the needs of peace, namely:
- The lack of alternatives to violence to resolve conflicts and the absence of an alternative narrative when it comes to stereotypes, prejudices as the two main factors of conflict to be overcome.

- By building the confidence of young people and facilitating or supporting platforms where they can engage in meaningful dialogue with their parents and community leaders, the project offers an alternative to violence to address differences of opinion and values between the generations.
- Lack of support from existing peace clubs and their teachers to strengthen the practice of dialogue and raise awareness of conflict issues, and by strengthening the capacities of class representatives of a selected school (pilot) in mediating conflicts between students, the project offers an alternative to violence in the treatment of conflicts at school.
