Job Description


INTERNSHIP ADVERTISMENT- CONSERVATION AND RESEARCH DEPARTMENT

Akagera Management Company (AMC) is offering a Professional Internship to a university graduate student or post-graduate to work as a Conservation and GIS Analysis Intern at Akagera National Park. The candidate must be an enthusiastic, motivated, and reliable individual. This intern will be involved in the following duties:

  1. Support the lead researcher in data analysis of elephant and rhino space-use data
  2. Assisting with the creation and maintenance of an elephant database
  3. Learn methods of sexing and ageing elephants and apply these to field observations
  4. Collect additional data pertinent to better understanding the ecology of elephants in Akagera NP
  5. Share and distribute findings through reports and presentations
  6. Participate in any activities carried out by the Conservation and Research Department

Suitable candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Hold a BSc in Zoology, Ecology, or other relevant field.
  • Have a strong background in ecology and biology.
  • Have experience in the field of ecology and preferably past experience working on research projects and analysis
  • Have knowledge of computer with emphasis on Microsoft programs, especially Excel
  • Have knowledge of advanced computer programs and experience using GIS programs (ArcGIS, QGIS) and statistical packages
  • Have good analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Be a quick learner and enthusiastic
  • Be highly organized, self-motivated, and eager to learn
  • Be able to work independently
  • Be dependable, respectful, and flexible
  • Demonstrate good work ethics, be hardworking, and honest
  • Be able to swim,
  • Willing to work in a rural setting and potentially camping in the park
  • Literate both spoken and written in English and Kinyarwanda
  • Be medically fit and mobile
  • Must have their own laptop

All applications must be submitted before close of business on 20th May 2022. Shortlisted candidates will be invited for interview. The successful candidate will begin with an immediate effect.
