Job description
The purpose of the role of an ECD Headteacher is to serve as the main top class teacher, to provide overall leadership, direction and management of the ECD, ensuring the highest standards of educational provision within the school’s ethos and policies. This includes setting and monitoring objectives, developing strategies, allocating resources, ensuring the quality of teaching and learning, monitoring the implementation of the National curriculum, and managing the performance of staff. The Headteacher is responsible for the well-being and safety of all staff and pupils, as well as the maintenance of the school’s buildings and grounds. The Headteacher of an ECD (Early Childhood Development) school is responsible for providing leadership and management of the school, ensuring that the highest standards of teaching and learning are achieved. He/she must also provide a safe and nurturing environment for students, staff, and parents. The ECD Headteacher will also be responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with relevant stakeholders, such as local authorities and community partners.
Duties and Responsibility
- Teach Top class and provide guidance to the caregiver’s assistant.
- Read each individual child’s files in his/her class and are knowledgeable about their medical and developmental histories.
- Interacts with the children and encourages their involvement in activities.
- Provides a warm, safe, and caring environment that is kept orderly, clean, and appealing(the environment should allow the child to grow and explore).
- Plans, prepares and implements daily activities (indoor/outdoor) as they relate to the curriculum.
- Responsible for the health, welfare, and safety of the children.
- Provides overall supervision of children and caregivers’ daily routines
- Maintains daily attendance records.
- Maintains ongoing developmental records for each child, including keeping records of all developing skills (physical, social, emotional, and cognitive).
- Keeps a “portfolio” of each child’s progress, including photographs, samples of their artwork, writing, etc…
- Maintains good communication with parents on a daily basis through the use of daily sheets, notes, or verbal.
- Supervises, trains, and utilizes assistant teacher’s (and volunteer’s) skills and abilities.
- Works with other staff members to form a positive, supportive team atmosphere.
- Ensures confidentiality of privileged information.
- Maintains adherence to all FMO policies and procedures, including safety requirements.
- Must work the days and hours to perform all assigned responsibilities and tasks, be punctual and timely in meeting all performance requirements, including but not limited to, attendance standards and work deadlines.
- Performs additional program duties as assigned by the Director according to agency needs.

Qualifications & requirements
To qualify for an ECD Head Teacher position we ask that you meet our minimum requirements:
- An Advanced diploma in Early Childhood Education or any other social sciences
- A proven experience of at least 3 years in Early Childhood Education
- Fluent in English/Kinyarwanda
- Fluent in French will be an added value
- Have a valid driving license category A
