Alight works with its partners and constituencies to provide opportunities and expertise to refugees, displaced people and host communities – to better survive conflicts and crisis, and to rebuild lives of dignity, health, security, and self-sufficiency. Alight presently works in and with partners in seventeen countries globally. Alight has consistently operated in Rwanda since the year 1994, and today has a strong and committed team of over eight hundred personnel who include full-time staff, community mobilizers, and incentive workers– implementing programs in Primary Health Care, Reproductive Health, HIV and Nutrition; also Water, Sanitation and Hygiene, Shelter and general Infrastructure, Livelihoods/Economic strengthening, and Sexual and Gender-Based Violence Prevention/ Protection. Our work in Rwanda currently covers all the refugee locations and their kind Rwandan-host communities. And we are always looking to expand and, jointly with our partners, offer lasting impact with and for the communities we serve! Alight is looking for a qualified, self-driven and committed individual to join in the position of Child protection prevention officer, based FULL TIME at ETM- Gashora– Nyamata district.

PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

The Child Protection prevention officer is responsible for leading and promoting the full participation of ETM residents in community mobilization activities and engaging Community members in the prevention of child protection issues. The staff will work with Protection staff to identify protection concerns from Persons of concerns, collaborate and build relationships with volunteers, local community partners, and service providers to conduct community engagement meetings, Child protection forums, and outreach—to address the identified needs.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Mobilizes community members to strengthen community-based protection mechanisms;
  • Engage and support Child protection community mechanisms to prevent and respond to child protection issues;
  • Participation in regular protection assessments to identify child protection concerns;
  • Facilitate community dialogue sessions on child protection within the center;
  • Lead and promote the full participation of ETM residents in all activities including awareness-raising sessions on child protection issues;
  • Inspire and promote community-based protection mechanisms and leadership among the ETM center residents and provide for capacity strengthening for leadership structures;
  • Organize and lead community sensitization campaigns;
  • Liaise with relevant partners to ensure that child protection issues are identified;
  • Work collaboratively with UNHCR, stakeholders, MIMINEMA, Police, district officials ensure children are protected;
  • Establish a network of community mobilizers and train them on the basics of CP mechanisms;
  • Work with sports facilitator to engage children in and CFS;
  • Increase feedback from the community through the submission of weekly community engagement reports;
  • Establish a network of community mobilizers and train them on the basics of Child protection;
  • Support the child Protection community-based groups to raise awareness on child protection issues;
  • Disseminate Child protection Communication materials across the camp;
  • Work with other partners to mainstream SGBV prevention and response in their existing services;
  • Develop communication strategies and work with teams and communities to develop and test appropriate IEC materials.

REQUIRED SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND BEHAVIORS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social work, Community Psychology, Education, Human right or related fields;
  • Three years’ experience implementing child protection, in Community services;
  • Excellent report writing, communication, and analytical skills;
  • Good listening skills;
  • Proven record on non-use of violence or abuse against children;
  • Strong interpersonal and intercultural skills, and high level of flexibility and tolerance to ambiguity;
  • Client-oriented with a strong attitude and work ethic; and a willingness to guide colleagues for Child protection sector towards exploring options and solutions, while assuring fidelity to expected policies and compliance for Child protection protocol and Alight.
