Presentation of Pro-Women/Twese Hamwe
Pro-Femmes / Twese Hamwe (PFTH) is a national collective of 53 civil society organizations working for the Advancement of Women, Peace and Development in Rwanda. It is a framework of solidarity and consultation between organizations working to improve the position of women in society and a service center, a thematic framework and a place of strategic influence.
The mission of the Pro-Femmes /Twese Hamwe collective is to eliminate all forms of discrimination against women in order to promote the socio-economic, political and legal status of women and to strengthen the institutional and organizational capacities of the collective and its member organizations. through the promotion of sustainable human development based on gender equality, peace, justice and human rights.
Context of the project.
The “Girls’ Education for a Better Future (ÉDUFAM)” project is funded by Global Affairs Canada (GAC) and implemented by the Paul Gérin-Lajoie Foundation (FPGL) and the Center for International Studies and Cooperation ( CECI), Canadian NGOs, and their partners in Rwanda, Burundi, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Lasting 4 years (2020-2023), the EDUFAM project aims to empower through education girls and women who are displaced, refugees, returnees and disabled in the Great Lakes region.
The project targets three main issues related to the education of vulnerable girls in the region, namely (1) the obstacles to access to primary, secondary and vocational education for girls, (2) the quality and adaptation of educational services focused on gender equality and the specific needs of girls, and (3) the leadership of girls and women in decision-making and the promotion of their right to education.
At the regional level, the CECI-FPGL consortium works in partnership with COCAFEM/GL and through its 3 local or national members, CAFOB in Burundi, Pro Femmes in Rwanda and COFAS in the DRC, in the implementation of components 1120, 1220 , 1310 and 1320 in connection with community and female mobilization aimed at reducing barriers to education for women and girls.
As part of the project, Pro-Femmes/Twese Hamwe is working on promoting gender equality and improving girls’ education in Kirehe District of the Eastern Province. The project interventions are carried out in the Mahama refugee camp and in the community surrounding the camp in the Mahama sector.
Description of tasks.
Under the supervision of the National Gender Equality Expert, the APS will perform the following tasks:
- Establish and/or update the realistic action plan for interventions relating to the provision of psychosocial services in order to identify and directly support survivors of SGBV and other women and girls who are members of the community in need of assistance ;
- Work at the community level with community workers, members of protection and anti-GBV committees, community leaders and health centers to identify women in need of support in order to provide them with adequate psychosocial support;
- Provide psychosocial support, ensure referral and support for SGBV survivors
- Ensure the establishment of coordination systems between the actors involved in the care of survivors of SGBV, including health centers, the police and education, as well as with community leaders, religious leaders and members women’s groups;
- Regularly organize discussion groups with women and girls in the target community to identify the risks associated with SGBV and develop strategies to mitigate these risks;
- Actively participate in SGBV case supervision meetings organized by service providers in the area of intervention to ensure maximum coordination in the care of SGBV survivors;
- Mobilize and participate in community training, including the development of training modules;
- Contribute to monitoring and evaluation in collaboration with other members of the project team;
- Monitor, collect, classify data on cases of SGBV in schools and in communities in the area of intervention and write periodic reports on the activities carried out
- Contribute to the establishment of community mechanisms for prevention, alert, reporting and referral in schools and the community;
- Offer reception, listening and referral services for victims, and accompany them to services;
- Act as a bridge between survivors and responders, thus contributing to the effectiveness of the system and trust between stakeholders;
- Also provide support for issues of rights, and sexual and reproductive health, marriages and early pregnancies;
- Work in concert with gender focal points located in schools;
- Sharing information through ICTs and the implementation of community and school systems, prevention, alert, referral to services, to amplify and allow the sharing of information (data) in real time / instantaneously through technological platforms set up in collaboration with educational authorities and ICT service providers;
- Perform any other task requested by the Project Coordination within its area of expertise.
Profile of the Candidate
Training
- University degree in human and social sciences, development sciences, or other related discipline
- Additional training on Gender-Based Violence would be an asset.
General work experience
- Demonstrated technical knowledge to assume the responsibilities and requirements of the position;
- Experience in a similar project would be an asset.
Specific work experience
- Justify a relevant experience of at least 3 years of psychosocial assistance for survivors of GBV;
- Have proven knowledge and experience of the psychosocial care of survivors of SGBV
- Have experience in facilitating and mastering group facilitation methods;
- Have a good knowledge of the associative environment in the country and experience of working with women’s community organizations;
- Have excellent communication, lobbying and advocacy skills;
- Have a good temperament and a good sense of active listening, empathy, discretion and confidentiality;
- Be available to work full time and in difficult situations;
- Have mastery of computer software in Word, Excel, internet and social networks
- Be able to prove his motivation for the promotion of the status of women;
- Be able to work in a team;
- Have flexibility and creativity in problem solving;
- Have a good command of French and a good knowledge of the local language.

- Very good organizational and method skills;
- Ability to work in a team and under pressure;
- Sense of initiative, voluntarism, dedication, recognized and accepted by their communities;
- Good writing ability.
