Terms of Reference for Recruiting an Assistant Cooperative Manager

Description

The Nasho Irrigation Cooperative (NAICO) is recruiting an Assistant Cooperative Manager to support the Cooperative leadership and management in implementing the cooperative’s activities. Nasho Irrigation Cooperative (NAICO) is a legally registered cooperative with registration number Nr: RCA:0409/2019, located in Nasho sector, Kirehe district. The cooperative is comprised of about 2,000 smallholder farmers working together to improve their livelihoods. The objective of NAICO is to support members within the cooperative to increase productivity through proper utilization of modern irrigation infrastructure and efficient use of inputs on an area of 1,173 hectares in the Nasho valley. They produce various crops mainly cereals, legumes, and vegetables and conduct seed production activities.The Assistant Cooperative Manager will assist the cooperative manager in all activities of the cooperative.

Overview

As the Assistant Cooperative Manager will report to the Cooperative Manager, and support in the management of field activities as well as staff management. S/he will mostly oversee agronomy and irrigation activities conducted by the technical staff.

Key responsibilities

Responsibilities of the Assistant Cooperative Manager will include:

  • Planning, coordinating, and scheduling all agricultural activities conducted by the cooperative.
  • Leading the distribution of agricultural inputs to farmers.
  • Conducting audits for paid and distributed inputs.
  • Preparing production plans.
  • Preparing field activities annual budget and production targets.
  • Mobilize farmers to conduct good agricultural practices.
  • Ensure that farmers adopt Conservation Agriculture.
  • Perform any other duties assigned to him or her by his/her supervisors.

Qualifications and Requirements

The applicants to this position must possess the following qualifications, skills, and experience.

  • At least a bachelor’s degree in agronomy, crop sciences, soil science, or any other related field.
  • Proven experience of at least 5 years in the field of agriculture.
  • Experience in managing farmer organizations of at least 4 years.
  • Excellent skills of computer programs especially Microsoft word, excel and power point.
  • Good report writing skills.
  • Be able to work under pressure and under minimum supervision.
  • Be fluent in Kinyarwanda and English, knowledge of French is an added value.
  • Having a driving license, category B and F is an added value.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
