JOB ANNOUNCEMENT

POSITION TITLE:  Adolescent sexual and reproductive health and rights (ASRHR) Officer

REPORTS TO:         Project Coordinator

LOCATION:             RWN Head Office

DURATION:             Six months, with a possibility of renewal

 INTRODUCTION

Rwanda Women’s Network (RWN) is a Non-Governmental Organization that came into existence in 1997 dedicated to promoting and strengthening strategies that empower women.

RWN’s mission is to work towards the improvement of the socio-economic welfare of women in Rwanda through enhancing their efforts to meet their basic needs and this is done through five core programs i.e. Health care and support, education and knowledge sharing; socio-economic empowerment; GBV Prevention and Response and governance and leadership.

RWN offers 20 years of community-based experience in women and girl’s empowerment programming including health, gender-based violence (GBV) and economic strengthening. RWN has strong experience recruiting and managing community volunteers who support its programming outcomes at the community and village level.

RWN is the implementing partner for the Proteknôn Foundation for Innovation and Learning, which is piloting an IT innovation that will deliver information and advice on adolescent sexual and reproductive health and rights (ASRHR) to young people aged 13-24 years and caregivers of adolescents. The project aims to improve young people’s ability to make more informed decisions about their relationships and SHR. The project is funded by Grand Challenges Canada. Technical support is provided by Rival Technologies.

 POSITION SUMMARY

The ASRH&R Officer will have the responsibility to develop referral information, pathways, and responses for chatbot users who submit comments and questions. She or he will also develop content for the project Facebook page and social media.

The Officer will have flexible work hours. Because this is a pilot project with pressure to deliver results, the position requires a high level of commitment to excellence.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS

  1. Develop and manage Kinyarwanda content for project Facebook page and social media messaging (some in English);
  2. Help map existing ASRH&R and health resources in Rwanda;
  3. Support RWN communication with ASRHR stakeholders in Rwanda;
  4. Review and respond to user comments and questions, either by referring them to existing resources or providing basic SRHR information;
  5. Communicate clearly and regularly with all project partners, in Rwanda and Canada.

 KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Passionate about improving ASRHR in Rwanda.
  • Demonstrated experience working face to face with Rwanda children, youth and families.
  • Demonstrated understanding of ASRHR issues in Rwanda.
  • A minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience in planning, managing and implementing plans/ projects related to ASRHR.
  • Comfort and experience with new digital technologies;
  • Experience in developing and managing different media platforms for social change.
  • A strong communicator (verbal and written) in Kinyarwanda and English.
  • Ability to be a team player while also working independently; take initiative while also consulting with others; confident, adaptable and resourceful; sensible and non-judgmental.
  • Preferably a Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g. Health, Education, public policy, child and youth studies)
